If you want to understand the laws of the universe so that you can use them in your favor to become successful, this book and blog post are for you!! In Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, he breaks down the way the world works into seven simple laws. Once you understand and follow these laws, success is unavoidable!
Chapter 1: The Law of Pure Potentiality
Pure potentiality just means that there are millions of ideas and inventions that have not yet been manifested into reality, but the potential to create them exists within us. This law emphasizes the fact that as human beings, we are limitless. Within us lies an infinite amount of power that we can tap into at any time. But how do we actually tap into this power? According to Chopra, we can step into this power through daily practice of silence, meditation, non-judgement, and spending time in nature. “Stillness is the first requirement for manifesting your desires, because in stillness lies your connection to the field of pure potentiality that can orchestrate an infinity of details for you.” Essentially, we have to understand our spirits were designed for extraordinary success and creativity. Chopra has this to say about our spirits:
Chapter 2: The Law of Giving (And Receiving)
“The more you give, the more you will receive, because you will keep the abundance of the universe circulating in your life.” Life is no more than an equal exchange of opposites. What goes up must come down, we breathe in and out, our chest falls and rises. We experience both happiness and sadness; pain and pleasure. We cannot have one without the other. This is why it makes sense that in order to receive, we must first give. So how do we apply this law? Chopra suggests that every time we meet someone, we give them something. We can give a compliment, a silent prayer, love, affection, sympathy, a listening ear, etc. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a traditional gift of monetary value, it just needs to have your purest intentions behind it.
Chapter 3: The Law of “Karma” or Cause and Effect
“Karma’ is both action and the consequence of that action; it is cause and effect simultaneously, because every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind.” We all make countless decisions every day. What we have to realize is that those choices and decisions we make do have consequences– rather positive or negative. So how can we make the “right” decisions and generate “good” karma? The answer is by paying attention to how we feel when we’re making decisions. Be aware. Be in tune. Chopra says, “At the moment you consciously make a choice, pay attention to your body and ask your body, ‘If I make this choice, what happens?’ If your body sends a message of comfort, that’s the right choice. If your body sends a message of discomfort, then it’s not the appropriate choice.” Just remember, the energy you’re putting out into the universe is going to make its way back to you at some point. It’s law.
Chapter 4: The Law of Least Effort
This law highlights the law of attraction. When you become whatever it is you’re seeking, what you’re seeking will find you with minimal effort on your end. Life will bring the experiences and opportunities necessary for your growth to you. You will find yourself in the right place at the right time surrounded by the right people. Chopra states, “When your actions are motivated by love, your energy multiplies and accumulates– and the surplus energy you gather and enjoy can be channeled to create anything that you want, including unlimited wealth.” In order to apply the law of least effort to your life, you cannot offer resistance to life. Accept what comes, release what leaves, go with the flow and what’s for you will find you.
Chapter 5: The Law of Intention and Desire
We are able to manifest our desires by combining them with intentions. However, it is important to make sure our intentions align with the seven laws. Our desires and intentions manifest when we’re able to (1) connect with ourselves through silence, (2) make our intentions known to the universe through speaking or writing them, (3) trust and believe that the seeds of our desires have been planted and will grow. Don’t worry about how. Don’t worry about when. Don’t offer any resistance to the present moment. Just know your desires are in the process of manifesting.
Chapter 6: The Law of Detachment
Detachment is accepting uncertainty. You may have a certain goal or direction that you want to go in, but do not allow yourself to become attached to how you’re going to attain that goal or exactly which path you’ll take. By accepting the uncertainty and unknown, it leaves room for the magical and unexpected to happen. The reality is, there are an infinite number of ways for you to reach that goal and an infinite number of paths to take. Another benefit of remaining detached from specific outcomes is it’ll make it easier for you to change goals or direction if/when you desire to do so. Chopra describes it like this: “The Law of Detachment does not interfere with the Law of Intention and Desire– with goal-setting. You still have the intention of going in a certain direction, you still have a goal. However, between point A and point B there are infinite possibilities.”
Chapter 7: The Law of “Dharma” or Purpose in Life
The word “dharma” is Sanskrit for “purpose in life.” Therefore, dharma is literally your life’s purpose. Chopra says, “Everyone has a purpose in life…a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.” In other words, everyone has something that they’re not only great at, but they’re passionate about as well. If you’re not sure what you’re good at or passionate about, take some time to learn yourself more and realize that you are a spiritual being inside of a human body. You are powerful and you possess the power to change the world! You, yes you! Let this knowing guide you to your inner purpose. It goes back to creating that inner stillness Chopra talks about in chapter 1. When the thing you’re good at AND passionate about can be used to help others, this is your dharma.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to achieve spiritual success and fulfillment in life! It does a phenomenal job of breaking down the way the world works into easy-to-understand laws. Chopra not only reveals the seven laws, but tells us exactly how to implement all of them in our daily lives. It’s a relatively short book and an easy read. I personally found it extremely helpful in my understanding of the universe so that I can be and do exactly what I was created to be and do. 10/10 would recommend!!
